KROMRIVIER FARM ADVENTURES
The magical Antonie’s Bos hike stretches over a 2,8 km circle route with forty indigenous trees, marked with its common names in Afrikaans and English as well as its Botanical name.
Jacobs Ladder is a days walk from the Hunting Lodge to get to the top of the Riviersonderend Mountain Range and back. It is about 5000 feet above sea level. The ridge is lying between Betties Bos and Platbos. There is no need for ropes, nevertheless it is a tough walk that would need to be carefully planned according to the weather forecast.
If you enjoy embarking on slightly easier trails and appreciate nature and its beautiful scenery, then the Hartebees Berg Hike is the trail for you. Once you have reached the top of the mountain, you will be able to see the Rûens stretching across the vast landscape. This breathtaking landscape resembles that of patchwork. Make sure to bring your camera along!
Betties Bos Rainforest
This forest lies in a valley and stretches across approximately 30 hectares of land. It is by far the most incredible forest of them all. Betties Bos has a lot to offer, such as pools to swim in, monkey ropes to swing from and its wide variety of indigenous trees, of which 40 different trees have been marked by hand. The vegetation forms a canopy creating a cool area to walk under during the hot summer season. A fountain is situated higher up in the valley, allowing water to flow down the stream all year round, the founder of the Kromrivier River. It is a comfortable walk and great for a family outing. There is a path that will lead you upstream and downstream which makes it impossible to get lost, alternatively you can also drive all the way to this forest which is about 2km away from the Hunting Lodge.
This forest stretching across approximately 2 hectares of land.
Platbos stretches across 20 hectares of land. It offers a challenging hike, which you would have to start from the eastern side. There is a 4×2 road that you need to drive up until the circle route situated at the foot of the Riviersonderend Mountain. From the circle route, you need to follow the pathway that will take you 200m into the forest. If you do not stay on this path, you may enter the forest deeper and there is a possibility you can get lost. If by any chance you do find yourself lost, please follow the stream downwards towards the 4×4 route, situated on the southern side of the forest.
Similar in size to Platbos Rainforest, Joggers is known for its 4×4 route, though it also offers a beautiful, primitive walk down to the forest and water stream.
